Vicky Jocher – Dem Zufälligen antworten

Meine Kunst entsteht im Antwortgeben – auf das Gesehene, das Gefühlte, den Moment. Jedes Werk ist ein Gespräch zwischen Material, Zufall und Erinnerung.​​
Ich habe gelernt, dass meine Kunst aus dem Augenblick entsteht – aus dem, was mir begegnet. Ich nenne das „opportunistisch“, aber im besten Sinn: Ich reagiere auf das, was da ist. Ein Wechsel des Lichts, eine zufällige Spur auf dem Papier, ein Gespräch im Atelier – all das kann der Beginn einer Arbeit sein. Ich plane nicht, ich lausche.
Diese Haltung begleitet mich seit meinem Studium in Irland und England und prägt bis heute mein Schaffen in Fridingen. Malerei, Mixed Media, Fotografie oder Tinten aus Naturpigmenten – für mich sind das alles Sprachen derselben Wahrnehmung. Ich liebe den Moment, wenn Material und Augenblick zusammenfinden, wenn Kontrolle sich löst und etwas Eigenes entsteht. Im Unterricht versuche ich, genau das weiterzugeben: dass Kunst kein Rezept braucht, sondern Aufmerksamkeit. Wer malt, muss nicht perfekt sein – nur offen. Kunst ist für mich kein Produkt, sondern eine Begegnung.
Geboren 1964 in Deutschland und aufgewachsen in Irland, wurde ich von Beginn an geprägt durch einen intensiven Dialog zwischen Kulturen und Landschaften. Meine künstlerische Ausbildung begann mit dem Diplom in Freier Kunst (Irland, 1986) und setzte sich mit einem Bachelor in Illustration (England, 2017) fort. Ich lebte und arbeitete 35 Jahre in Irland und zehn Jahre in England, bevor ich 2018 in meine schwäbische Heimat zurückkehrte – mit einem reichen Schatz an internationalen Einflüssen, die bis heute meine Arbeit durchdringen.
Als international tätige Künstlerin und Illustratorin bewege ich mich frei zwischen Abstraktion und Gegenständlichkeit. Mixed Media ist mein bevorzugtes Ausdrucksmittel – das Zusammenspiel von Schichten, Materialien und Texturen eröffnet immer neue Ebenen der Wahrnehmung. Neben der Mischtechnik umfasst mein Repertoire auch Öl-, Aquarell- und Acrylmalerei, Druckgrafik, experimentelle Pigmentforschung und Fotografie.
Für mich ist Kunst ein lebenslanger Dialog mit der Welt. Meine Werke laden dazu ein, hinzusehen, zu spüren und vielleicht ein Stück dieses stillen Austauschs mitzunehmen – zwischen Farbe, Zufall und dem, was uns bewegt.

My art begins in response — to the seen, the felt, the fleeting. Every work is a conversation between material, chance, and memory.

I have learned that my art arises from the moment — from whatever encounters me. I call it “opportunistic,” but in the best sense: I respond to what is there. A shift in light, an accidental trace on paper, a conversation in the studio — any of these can mark the beginning of a work. I do not plan; I listen.
This attitude has accompanied me since my studies in Ireland and England and continues to shape my work today in Fridingen. Painting, mixed media, photography, or inks made from natural pigments — for me, they are all languages of the same perception. I love the instant when material and moment converge, when control dissolves and something of its own emerges. In my teaching, I try to pass on exactly that: that art does not need a recipe, but attention. Those who paint need not be perfect — only open. For me, art is not a product but an encounter.
Born in Germany in 1964 and raised in Ireland, I was shaped from the beginning by an intense dialogue between cultures and landscapes. My formal training began with a Diploma in Fine Art (Ireland, 1986) and continued with a BA in Illustration (England, 2017). I lived and worked in Ireand for 35 years and then England for ten years before returning to my Swabian homeland in 2018 — carrying with me a wealth of international influences that continue to inform my work.
As an internationally active fine artist and illustrator, I move freely between abstraction and representation. Mixed Media is my preferred form of expression — the interplay of layers, materials, and textures opens up ever new levels of perception. Alongside mixed media, my repertoire includes oil, watercolor, and acrylic painting, as well as printmaking and experimental pigment research, and photography.
For me, art is a lifelong dialogue with the world. My works invite the viewer to look closely, to feel, and perhaps to take with them a fragment of this quiet exchange — between color, chance, and what moves us.
